Peterborough Youth Choir

Peterborough Youth Choir welcomes children from the age of seven, providing professional singing and music tuition and exceptional performance opportunities.

Directed by William Prideaux, Peterborough Youth Choir is the city’s leading youth music group with over 40 members in junior, intermediate and senior sections.

The choir is free to all and welcomes children from the age of seven, providing professional singing and music tuition and exceptional performance opportunities.

Peterborough Youth Choir has collaborated with world-renowned musicians including the King’s Singers, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, The Band of the RAF Regiment and the BBC Concert Orchestra, among many others!

In 2015 the choir performed at St Johns Smith Square in London with Peterborough Male Voice Choir, Peterborough Voices and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in the world premiere of Hawks and Horses, a specially-commissioned work by celebrated composer Errrollyn Wallen.

In 2013 and 2015, in partnership with Bill Kenwright Ltd, members of Peterborough Youth Choir performed in the national tours of Evita starring Marti Pellow, Joseph and his Tecnicolour Dream Coat starring X Factor winner Joe McElderry and Dreamboats and Petticoats: The Christmas Party. Their performances are regularly broadcast on BBC Radio Cambridgeshire and in 2016 they were featured on BBC One’s Songs of Praise.

Always a highlight of the choir’s schedule is their annual residential weekend at Buckden Towers every February half term, which – as well as being lots of fun – enables them to rehearse intensively, making remarkable progress in a very short period of time!

The Peterborough Youth Choir boys recently participated in the Cornwall International Male Choral Festival, competing and performing in Truro’s Hall for Cornwall alongside some of the world’s leading boys’ choirs including the legendary St. Petersburg Boys’ Choir.

Aged between 7 and 19 the boys also performed in the Regional Gala Concert in Launceston as well as singing informally at the Eden Project and the National Maritime Museum in Falmouth.

Peterborough Youth Choir has an excellent track record of preparing singers for regional and national opportunities. As well as making the transition to our adult choirs, Peterborough Male Voice Choir and Peterborough Voices, several members have successfully auditioned for the National Youth Choirs of Great Britain while others have gone on to specialist music schools and gained places with Durham Cathedral Choir and the choir of King’s College, Cambridge.

Peterborough Youth Choir was founded by Peterborough Male Voice Choir in 2011 together with music education charity Peterborough Sings! and women’s choir Peterborough Voices, creating a choral organisation of over 200 singing members.

Rehearsals are at All Saints Church Hall, All Saints Road, Peterborough PE1 2UL on Wednesdays during term time (4-6.30pm), supervised by a team of enhanced DBS-checked chaperones.

New members are always welcome, email admin@peterboroughsings.org.uk or call 01733 425194 for information.
